At last our search was successful. Sad day when we learned that the hospital is being torn down to be replaced by condominiums.

Picture this dress with an altered top (higher cut and sleeves to the elbow) with a beautiful blonde, blue eyed young woman in it, and you can picture Angie on August 14th. That is if Linnell doesn't make any wrong cuts... both the lining and the lace had exactly the amount needed to make the dress, so no mistakes allowed. We are still looking for an antique piece of jewelry to make the belt from. Both sets of Brandon's grandparents live not far away, so Brandon and Angela are going to visit the grandmas soon and see how they feel about them going through their jewels! Dad has even been getting into the spirit... we came home to him putting up white lights on the top of the deck that now looks like hundreds of stars.

Dad and I were in the temple last night and couldn't help but think about the upcoming event. It will be a special moment as we are in the celestial room together for the first time with all of our children (though an even better moment in the future will be when ALL our children can be there, which of course includes Emily, Anne, and Jason.) Love you all so much!

Our Founding Fathers...

Here is a combination of my thoughts and some quotes for this special weekend:

It has been 213 years since 56 of our founding fathers added their signatures to a document whose main purpose was to help each of them realize what they all had in common. This document so skillfully articulated their values that they were able to reach the unanimous conclusion that it was worth putting at risk everything they own, including their lives, by signing their names to it. In effect, they certified that their rights come from their Creator (not a King), and that their very existence (and survival) was dependent upon that same Creator.

We must never forget that the Lord raised up the founders of the United States, sanctioned their work, and designated them "wise men." His approval of their work is recorded in section 101 of the Doctrine and Covenants: "And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood." (D&C 101:80)

In 1877, shortly after the dedication of the St. George Temple, the first temple in Utah, the Founding Fathers appeared to Elder Wilford Woodruff, one of the twelve apostles, who was president of the temple. This is his testimony: "Before I left St. George, the spirits of the [Founding Fathers] gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, 'You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.' These were the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and they waited on me for two days and two nights. . . . I straightway went into the baptismal font and called upon Brother McCallister to baptize me for the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and fifty other eminent men, making one hundred in all, including John Wesley, Columbus, and others." (Journal of Discourses 19:229.)

At a conference in April 1898, after he became president of the Church, President Woodruff declared: "Those men who laid the foundation of this American government and signed the Declaration of Independence were the best spirits the God of heaven could find on the face of the earth. They were choice spirits, not wicked men. General Washington and all the men that labored for the purpose were inspired of the Lord. . . . "Everyone of those men that signed the Declaration of Independence, with General Washington, called upon me, as an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the Temple at St. George, two consecutive nights, and demanded at my hands that I should go forth and attend to the ordinances of the House of God for them." (Conference Report, April 1898, pp. 89-90.)
