Google Alert for posts to this blog

Did you know that if you create a Google Alert with search terms "Blaine Burnett", you will receive an email alert on the same day that a new post has been added to the Blaine Burnett Family Blog? Unfortunately, you will also receive an email alert for any other postings on the entire internet that contain both "Blaine" and "Burnett". It's surprising that the combination appears almost every day somewhere out there.

I just changed the settings on the blog so it would email bburnett@canby.com every time someone posts or adds a comment since that sounds easier than having to do a google search. If you don't like what I did, let me know and I can delete it. These options are under "customize" then "settings". If anyone else is interested in setting this up for their email address, we can add up to 10 emails. Thanks!

That's great, thanks! I will keep my Google Alert, though. I was reading an article about taking full advantage of social networking, and the first item listed was to create a Google Alert. It said if you haven't, stop reading now and create one. I did, and then life happened, and I've never finished that article. At least I know whenever someone on the internet posts something with my first and last name in it.

BTW, Russ reminded me that you can avoid getting alerts that contain separate entries of "Blaine" and "Burnett" by having your Google Alert search for the whole string. Adding double quotes in the text of your search string will force Google to only return alerts with the full name of "Blaine Burnett".

Still, having Nikki change the blog settings to notify you would be the simplest option.
